Greece has always been a summer destination for many travelers. Its beaches and islands are perfect for relaxing, partying, or looking at the blue water.
Islands like Paros and Crete are known as the best places to spend your summer since these islands are beautiful and filled with culture and arts. Places like Mykonos are known for their parties that last all night and morning. It challenges places like Ibiza, a club paradise since the 60s.
A new island is the best place to spend your summer this year. It’s not Mykonos, Naxios, or Milos.
The country of Greece has 6,000 islands, and only 227 are populated. That can also change in the season since most people live on the islands during spring and summer.
Even though the weather isn’t as cold as in places like New York or Berlin, the winds get intense, and only locals spend the full seasons there. According to a Which? Travel (a UK consumer website) survey, there’s a new island that is the most amazing.
Check out which island is the best to visit this summer and why:

According to more than 1,000 responders to the Which? Travel survey, Kefalonia is the most sought-after Grecian vacation spot.
This survey placed Mykonos as the last place travelers wanted to go if heading to Greece. This is because of the intense partying on the island and the constant overcrowding during the high-peak season.
Travelers are starting to see this as something they want to avoid getting mixed up in and realize that it can harm the people living on the islands and their resources.

Kefalonia might be a name you haven’t heard before, but it’s the most oversized Ionian island in Greece and likely the most diverse.
It’s rocky, filled with mountains, and known primarily for having good wine before tons of travel headed its way.
Now hard-to-get-to beaches are becoming a hotspot set to overshadow places like Mykonos and Santorini.
What shines about this island is its diversity. Since it’s the most significant island, it has tons of space to stretch out and has different things for travelers to check out.
For example, you can have lunch and tour its urban capital, Argostolion, hike up the highest peak for four hours one way (Mt Enos), and then head to Myrtos Beach to cool off and enjoy views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding peaks the island has.
This makes Kefalonia great because you can have unlimited different experiences depending on what kind of traveler you are.
Another significant aspect of this island is its calmness. Unlike some neighboring islands, survey respondents noted it as a place to relax genuinely.
Since it’s less traveled than other islands, Kefalonia maintains its original European laid-back vibe (primarily found in the summer), and travelers are looking for that more than ever.
Another reason why this island is impressive is that it has some of the bluest water you can find.
Everywhere from its beaches to Melissani Cave (an awesome indoor cave), have the best unbothered blue waters.
Travelers enjoy this place due to its 18th-century neoclassical and baroque architecture in places like the capital.
It differs from the white-washed Cycladic architecture found on the other islands. It almost makes you feel like you’re in the Caribbean but with slightly higher peaks.
While you’re admiring the architecture, check out some of its wine.
More than 500 tons of Robola wine are native to the island, and it’s a type of white wine you should have while there.
Kefalonia is the best place on the Greek islands to visit this summer, and we understand why.
It’s filled with beautiful scenery, fantastic architecture, and the same pristine blue waters the Ionian islands are notorious for.
Take a break from places like Mykonos, and take advantage of visiting islands like Kefalonia. It’ll be a much more relaxing time.
