It’s top of everyone’s travel bucket list, however, a stark warning has come from the UK travel industry advising that travelling to see the world-famous ‘Sakura’, the magnificent Japan cherry blossoms, is going to get much harder in years to come. Since Japan reopened in 2022, and with pent up demand from three years of non-travel, demand for travel to witness the iconic cherry blossom season has literally skyrocketed, with demand completely outstretching capacity. In addition, considering the huge logistical impact this represents for the Japanese tourism industry, in what’s a relatively short window of time from March to April each year, availability is almost certainly going to get much harder going forwards with many travellers faced with the prospect of having to book at least two or three years in advance to stand any chance of seeing this, the world’s greatest natural phenomena.
“Cherry blossom is a huge tourism magnet in Japan during March and April, as is the equally magnificent autumn foliage season in October and November, both of which attract, in a time frame of only a few months, more than 65% of the annual total number of international visitors to Japan, and that’s without accounting for domestic tourism travellers. Given the boom, and unprecedented demand, the message is clear, if you want to travel to Asia in 2024, it’s imperative you book now to avoid disappointment.”
