These 10 Airlines Have Just Been Named The Best In The World

The Skytrax 2023 World Airline Awards were held at the Paris Air Show this week; known as the “Oscars of Aviation,” the iconic event hands out awards to industry leaders from around the world.

This year’s top honor of Best Airline in the World was awarded to Singapore Airlines, who bumped the previous seven-time winner, Qatar Airways, to second place.

Since their start in 1999, the World Airline Awards have been recognizing top airlines in categories such as: airline of the year, cabin staff, most improved, first class, best low-cost carrier, and more.

While all awards are considered an industry top honor, all eyes are on the most coveted category of the World’s Best Airline.

Before We Get To The World’s Best Top 10, A Quick Look At Where The U.S. Airlines Placed:

  • Delta Airlines ranked the highest for a U.S. airline at #20, a small step up from last years #24
  • United came in at #49 (up from last year’s #60)
  • Alaska Airlines #52 (up from 59th spot last year) 
  • JetBlue #55 (dropped from last years #41) 
  • Sun Country comes in at #59 (a huge jump from 2022’s #114) 
  • Southwest falls to #60 (dropped from #35) 
  • American Airlines #82 (dropped from #68) 
  • Hawaiian Airlines is at #85, with a rather large drop from it’s 65th spot last year
  • Breeze Airways just cracked the top 100 at #97, which is a climb from their 115th spot last year. 

According To Skytrax, The Top 10 Airlines In The World For 2023 Are: 

1. Singapore Airlines

This is the fifth time Singapore Airlines has won the top spot at the awards, only a month after the airline was also ranked 5th in the world by AirlineRatings.com, a leader in aviation safety and product rating.

Singapore is favored for its first-class cabin product, not to mention its main airport is continually ranked one of the world’s best as well.

2. Qatar Airways 

After previously winning the top title for seven years, this was the year Qatar Airways was finally bumped to number two.

Qatar wins top honors for its business-class product, including its business-class lounge at Hamad International Airport.

3. ANA All Nippon Airways

In addition to taking the third spot on the World’s Best Airlines list, Japan’s second-largest airline also won for World’s Best Airport Services and well as being given the honor of the cleanest airline in the world.

4. Emirates

Dubai-based Emirates came in at number four, a small drop from its third place in last year’s awards. No stranger to the top 10 for the World’s Best Airlines rankings, Emirates also wins points with passengers for its popular stop-over program in Dubai.

5. Japan Airlines

Jumping up one spot from number 6 last year is one of Japan’s flag carriers, which has major hubs in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Okinawa.

Japan Airlines connects the country to almost 80 destinations around the world.

6. Turkish Airlines

Not only did Turkish Airlines land high on this list, but it also scored the highly coveted Best Airline In Europe title.

Turkish Airlines also benefits from an impressive stopover option and increased access to its airports in Istanbul.

7. Air France

Air France not only moved up from its spot as number 8 last year, but it also won awards for being the Best Airline in Western Europe, as well as Best First Class Airline Lounge Catering, Best First Class Onboard Catering, and Best First Class Airport Lounge.

8. Cathay Pacific

Soaring up the list from its 2022 place of number 16 is Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways. A founding member of the one world alliance, Hong Kong’s flagship carrier is known for its award-winning products and its quality lounges.

9. EVA Air

Another airline with a big jump in the right direction is Taiwan’s EVA Air, climbing the charts from its 2022 spot of number 18.

Taipei-based EVA Air is known for its brightly colored fleet, most of which sport SANRIO characters, including an entire Hello Kitty Jet.

10. Korean Air

SkyTeam alliance member Korean Air was recently awarded Skytrax’s 5-star Arline rating, helping to boost its presence in the industry.

Korean Air is the country’s largest fleet and the flag carrier, although new smaller airlines are popping up around the country.
