2023 has been declared The Year of the Airport Lounge.

With a record-breaking travel summer ahead, airport lounges offer a much-needed breather for passengers to get a little peace in the predicted chaos.

Trading out the loud, crowded airport for a calm, spacious lounge is often well worth the cost.

Slipping into an airport lounge allows travelers to escape the throngs of pushing vacationers and the screams of overheated babies (who, let’s be honest, are just as done as we are) to rest, eat, drink, or work. They’re also great oases to ride out delays

Here are four brand new lounges opening at major U.S. airports this summer to help you make your great escape.

Chase Sapphire Lounge By The Club – Boston Logan

Today, May 16th, Chase Sapphire opens their new Lounge By The Club location at Boston Logan International Airport in the Terminal B to C connector (B40-B39).

In this 12,000-square-foot art-filled lounge, travelers can enjoy world-class wellness-focused amenities such as:

  • anti-gravity massage chairs
  • guided meditations by wellness influencer Devi Brown
  • premium shower suites
  • private nursing room
  • family playroom

From the wood and industrial interior to the locally inspired menu by Boston chef Douglass Williams, down to the coffee from nearby Atomic Coffee Roasters, this lounge is clearly built for Boston.

According to The Points Guy’s first look review, “The tavern features Boston memorabilia on display and years engraved around the wall denoting important dates in Boston history. Some of these include the arrival of the first Puritans in 1630, the founding of the Red Sox and Bruins, and the election of the city’s first woman mayor in 2021.”

And the best part? No need to reserve your lounge time in advance. Just swipe your card and lounge away.

Delta Sky Club – JFK

A new Delta Sky Club is scheduled to open at JFK this June. It will be located in Terminal 4 Concourse A, where Delta has expanded their presence with 11 new gates during JFK’s massive renovation

The highly anticipated new lounge will feature 220 seats spread across nearly 14,000 square feet. The real showstopper is a heated Sky Deck available year-round.

Once open, this Sky Club will replace the temporary Sky Club Express in T4 Concourse B.

An exclusive Delta One Lounge is also coming early next year for business class passengers only.

Capital One – Dulles

Capital One is opening a new lounge in Washington, D.C. (IAD) this summer. You’ll find it in the Main Terminal just past TSA Pre-Check.

The less-than-convenient location will likely be well worth it, though. Capital One Lounges are handled by Plaza Premium, an industry leader in quality who made their name in the highly competitive Asia market.

If the well-received DFW Capital One Lounge is any indication, travelers can expect to be pleasantly surprised by luxe furnishings, Peloton bikes, shower suites, a separate family-friendly area, nap pods, and cold brew on tap.

Capital One Lounges so far have stood out for raising the culinary bar for U.S. airport lounges. According to Summer Hall’s review of the Capital One DFW lounge for The Points Guy, “The only sad part of the dining experience at the Capital One Lounge was when I was too full for it to continue.”

Let’s hope that Capital One can sustain this quality at its new Dulles location.

AMEX Centurion – Ronald Reagan

American Express is opening a new Centurion Lounge at DCA’s Terminal B. While official schedules say it will open sometime in 2023, experts predict it will open by the end of the summer.

Once open, this will be the 14th AMEX Centurion Lounge in the U.S. and the 28th location globally.

Centurion Lounges are known for premium dining and bar experiences inspired by local seasonal ingredients and well-known chefs. Other Centurion Lounge locations offer perks like wine tastings, custom mixology, spa services, shower suites, semi-private workspaces, and family rooms. Travelers can look forward to seeing what the DCA location has in store.
