The Skytrax World Airlines Awards, awarded to airlines based on surveys of over 20 million travellers from over 100 countries who assessed more than 325 airlines between September 2022 and May 2023, are given out again this year. Many things have changed this year in contrast to the previous.
In recent years, Qatar Airways has consistently outperformed the competition. However, in 2023, the Arab country’s carrier had to give up the top place to another excellent airline, Singapore Airlines.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t Singapore Airlines’ first time at the throne.
Talking about Singapore Airlines, this isn’t the first time the company has held this crown.
As a result, the Doha-based carrier fell to second place, followed by All Nippon, an airline that “stole” the third step of the podium from Emirates in 2018, forcing the latter to settle for the so-called wooden medal in 2023.

These outcomes let many down despite the widespread celebration. North American Airlines still needs to crack the top spots for the second year. Specifically, Air Canada enters the rankings first, albeit at a disappointing 37th place, while United is at a distant 49th.
However, low-cost carrier Volotea showed remarkable improvement, moving from 124th to 54th and ultimately finishing ahead of Transavia, easyJet, Ryanair, and Vueling in that order. Unfortunately, only Air Dolomiti made it into the top 100, coming in at #96, two spots higher than in the previous edition.
