Mexico is consistently a top travel destination for Americans, and for good reasons:  fantastic beaches, delicious cuisine, and enchanting Pueblos Magicos.  In fact, it takes three of the top 10 international travel spots on TripAdvisor’s Seasonal Travel Index of 2023.  However, if you’re looking to broaden your horizons and check out some other incredible beach destinations, there are a lot to choose from that are also just a quick flight away.

According to TripAdvisor, these are the top international beach destinations Americans are visiting other than Mexico.

1. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Coming in at number 2, just after Cancun, Punta Cana is the most popular spot on this list.  Its close proximity to the United States and affordable flight options make it the ideal vacation destination for Americans.

Visitors come to this tropical paradise for crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and its relaxing atmosphere.  There are also a number of luxurious all-inclusive resorts offering a range of amenities and activities, including golf courses and spas.

Punta Cana truly has something for everyone.  Whether it’s water sports, adventure, nature, or nightlife you’re looking for, you can find it.  For adventure-seekers, there are zip-line and ATV tours, and for water-lovers, there’s incredible snorkeling and scuba diving.  Visitors can also relax on the beach or set sail on a catamaran by day and enjoy the lively bars, clubs, and casinos by night.

2. Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay is another option that is close and convenient to the United States, with direct flights from multiple Florida airports as well as other major cities throughout the east coast.  With its all-inclusive resorts, world-class golf courses, and pristine beaches, it offers many of the same activities as Punta Cana.  However, Jamaica offers its own unique cuisine and culture as well.

History buffs can visit historical and cultural sites such as the Rose Hall Great House and the Greenwood Great House, while food-lovers can enjoy Jamaican cuisine at local restaurants or take a culinary tour.  It’s also possible to tour Cockpit Country, an area near Montego Bay that is rich in Jamaican history as well as biodiversity.

3.  Palm Beach And Eagle Beach, Aruba

The furthest destination on this list is the island of Aruba, although there are plenty of flights from major U.S. airports for around $100 one-way.  It is well worth the few extra miles.  With perfect weather year-round and stunning turquoise waters, it’s ideal for a relaxing vacation.

Palm Beach is known for its lively atmosphere, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops along the strip.  Eagle Beach, on the other hand, is more peaceful and quiet, making it a great spot for a romantic getaway or family vacation.

Both beaches offer a variety of water sports activities, such as parasailing, paddleboarding, and windsurfing.  Visitors can also take a sunset catamaran tour or explore the island on a jeep safari excursion.

Those interested in nature and wildlife can visit the Bubali Bird Sanctuary or the nearby Butterfly Farm.  Eagle Beach is also a popular spot for turtle watching, as it is one of the nesting grounds for endangered sea turtles.

4. Providenciales, Turks And Caicos

Providenciales is the most developed island in Turks and Caicos, popular for its numerous beaches – over 12 miles of them.  It is home to Grace Bay Beach, which has consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the world.  The beach is picture-perfect due to the lack of rocks, seaweed, and pollution.

The rich marine life, coral reefs, and incredibly clear waters make it an excellent place for snorkeling and diving.

Additionally, the island has a reputation for being a very safe and family-friendly destination with a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.  The extensive barrier reef just offshore plays a part in keeping the waves calm and safe.  Providenciales seems to have a perfect combination of both high-end amenities and natural beauty to make for a serene but luxurious vacation.
