Visa, a world leader in digital payments and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT announced the launch of the Visa Thailand Grand Sale campaign. The campaign is designed to drive international tourism to Thailand while accelerating tourist spending at leading popular shopping destinations throughout the country, including King Power Duty Free, Central department stores, The Mall Group department stores, and Gaysorn Village.

The Visa Thailand Grand Sale campaign is the latest collaboration between the two organisations to boost tourism and accelerate economic recovery in Thailand.  It comes on the back of a recently announced MOU to analyse data on international tourists’ spending behaviours and develop strategy that will attract high-spending quality tourists in the long run.

Serene Gay, Group Country Manager for Regional Southeast Asia, Visa, said: “Building on a strong partnership for over the past two decades, we are privileged to continue supporting TAT in attracting more international tourists to Thailand and ultimately revitalising spending.  We hope the campaign will play its part in helping to accelerate recovery in tourism sector thereby unleashing new opportunities for cross-border commerce and retail businesses in Thailand.”

Thailand has already welcomed over 10.6 million tourists, more visitors in the first 5 months of 2023 compared to the same period of 2022 (713%).  According to the recent “Asia Pacific Destination Forecasts 2023-2025: Thailand” report prepared by PATA for Visa, Thailand is one of the top ten Asia Pacific destinations for global travellers. The report found that the country’s tourism growth is set to continue, with an increase in visitors expected in the third quarter this year.

The report also found that the retail value of attractions and experiences in Thailand is set to recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2023, whilst lodging and hotels will fully recover by 2024 in current price terms.

The Visa Thailand Grand Sale campaign offers international Visa cardholders a variety of discount coupons and special deals at nine participating leading department stores across Thailand, including King Power, Central Department Store, Siam Paragon, Emporium, EmQuartier, Icon Siam, Ratchaprasong, One Siam, and Jungceylon.  The campaign lasts until 31 August 2023.
